About Us
As I'm sitting here thinking about what I want to say in this space that could possibly be of interest to anyone, the thoughts about who I am and what I believe in become clear.
I'm just like you. I've loved horses forever, they really tell more about me than anything else I do that I can think of. My horses are goofy and animated - so am I. My horses love to go - so do I, they're very clear when communicating their likes and dislikes, as I am.
I thought I was doing the "best" for my horses. All the while riding them in saddles that didn't fit - although I spent a lot of money trying to find the one that would. All the while riding them in bits or hackamores and hanging on their face. All the while keeping them shod when as Pete Ramey says, "the damage caused by horseshoes is no secret, and in my opinion doing damage to an animal to make it better suit our needs is inherently wrong."
I thought feeding the fortified feeds that the big names put out on the market were the best too. Alfalfa, sure. Keep 'em in a 12 x 12 stall because that was what worked for me - disregarding of course their very nature. And of course - salt and mineral blocks made for cattle.
The majority of horses in this country alone are lame. The majority. They are lamed by our horsekeeping practices. They die from founder and colic and laminitis because of the feeds we use, and the confinement we force on them. You name it, we cause it. And we spend millions annually trying to do the right thing.
So, who I am is a woman committed to helping educate others just like me. There are things that you will read and hear that will resonate as truth to you - trust that feeling.
I'm married to a man who is my best friend, and who supports me even when he doesn't understand why I want to go trim horse's feet. At 48 years old.
We have a daughter, Maggie, who is the light of our lives, and who blesses everyone she meets.
Thanks for sharing the journey with us.
